Works In Progress

This is the section where I tell you about the things I am working on.

I have a completed manuscript that has been contracted by Musa Publishing for a Sept 2012 release.  Here is the blurb:

WATERDANCER

As if high school isn’t hard enough, try being Bailey Wasserman.  Try being the new girl in town, navigating a touchy relationship with your flighty mom’s rich new husband in a brand new town he’s just moved you to.  Add to that finding out that your father, a semi-pro surfer who’s just mysteriously re-entered your life after nearly fifteen years of silence, is half sea-creature and you’re about to inherit that particular gene on your sixteenth birthday which is only a few days away, all after you just met the cutest surfer boy you’ve ever seen in your life.
Bailey feels she and her mom have always met life’s challenges as a team of two, more like best friends than mother and daughter.  But her mom’s recent marriage has changed all that.  Having her little brother Landry is all Bailey can find good about that union.  The move to wealthy Del Mar from their humble beginnings has turned Bailey sour, until a chance meeting of surf hottie Jack West changes all that.  Then, when her father reenters her life, with his annoying Zen-surfer lingo and a talking turtle he claims is her spirit guardian, no less, he threatens the only relationship Bailey thinks is working in her world. She soon finds out that’s not all his arrival will do.  His presence and their shared family trait could ultimately force Bailey to make a decision that will alter the course of her own life and those she loves…..forever.

MORE PROJECTS.....

I am more than 3/4 of the way through a new book, with the working title of THE DEADLIES.  I don't have a blurb or even a query worked out yet.  I never do that until the books are finished.  But I can tell you it's a YA Paranormal about a mean girl clique from an antebellum prep school academy in a fictional town in Kentucky.  These girls are discovered to be possessed by the evil spirits of the Seven Deadly Sins.  A plucky lass named Calliope Flood is the one who will bring them all down, with her own clique of friends who are the biblical opposites of the sins, namely, The Virtues.  I anticipate completing this one soon.
***UPDATE: As of 8-10-12, I have completed this novel.  Now I am launching a full-fledged edit, the writing of the query and the creating of the logline.  I am going to try this one with my handful of Rockstar agents.  Cross your fingers.  :-) ***
***UPDATE: As of Sept 2012, two New York agents have requested more pages, one wanted the whole manuscript.  Waiting to see if there may be others or what these ones might do.
***UPDATE:  As of February 2013, the book was contracted to Secret Cravings Publishing and will release in April 2013.  Excited!

Another project is about a girl who's scientist father had discovered an amazing gene (no spoilers here!), is persecuted for the discovery, and creates a nationwide panic involving.....red-heads.  Crazy, right.  Oh, and his daughter discovers that she is sprouting wings.  Working title: WINGSPAN.  This will be my first foray into the genre called Dystopic.
***UPDATE: As of the weekend of August 24, 2013, Wingspan is completed.  I have the query and am just sittin' back and relaxing.  I'll update when I decide which publisher I should submit it to.  Woo-hoo!***

I have a couple more things going as well.  A sci-fi called BRIGHT LIGHTS based on aliens landing at a car rental facility near LAX (write what you know, they say, and I used to work in the industry), another Horror based on a creepy fare a taxi-driver takes (again, this is my NEW industry!  *giggle*  writing what I know).  Then there is a scary babysitter story, a vampire hunter story, with a teen twist, one about a serial killer, and finally one about four girls who control the elements.  That one does have a title, appropriately enough, THE ELEMENT GIRLS.

*** 9-12-12***NEW IDEA:  A new idea came to me this week for a boycentric time travel story.  I am working the thing out in my head first, and I'm sure Musina will start me off and launch it soon.  I'm getting pretty excited!

So, there you have it.  Won't it be interesting to see which of these seeds becomes a sapling and then a mighty oak?
